A Critical Discussion by Experts on Leadership Models

Leaders are always considered as the source of inspiration, encouragement, confidence, creativity, and positivity. Based on the characteristics and traits of a leader the experts have designed different leadership models. According to a dissertation writing service, these models are the different leadership styles that determine the personality and working style of the leader. These models include

  1. Transformational Leadership Model
  2. Charismatic Leadership Model
  3. Ethical Leadership Model
  4. Laissez-faire Leadership Model
  5. Bureaucratic Leadership Model
  6. Democratic Leadership Model
  7. Autocratic Leadership Model

Transformational Leadership Model:

The transformational leadership model is based on motivational management, where a leader sets the example and inspiration by his work and personality, and workers have to follow him. According to the experts’ analysis, in the Transformational Leadership Model, the core values are honesty and truthfulness. A transformational leader focuses more on values and transparency. Their main focus is following the right way for doing the right things. Transformational leadership style always favors and encourages change.

Transformational leaders are always ready to break the status quo and when they bring the change they want others to accept this change as well. Some experts are not in favor of the transformational leadership model. As they believe that this leadership style overlooks the details and focuses more on the big picture only. This leadership style works well when the team members are highly organized and detail-oriented. Thus it puts extra pressure on team members. Experts regard this leadership style as risky and disruptive.

Charismatic Leadership Model:

Charismatic leaders are different from transformational leaders as they look beyond the big picture and focuses on the details. Transformational leaders set inspiration through their personality whereas charismatic leaders shape the personality and value of followers. Excellent communication is the main characteristic of charismatic leaders. They have convincing power. Experts call the charismatic leader a visionary. But this model is dependent on the energy of the leader. This leadership style puts more load on the leader. When individuals have to follow the vision of the leader only they have to give the sacrifice of their vision, ideas, and dreams. This limits the opportunities for new learning. According to the critical analysis of the experts’, the charismatic leadership style is not suitable for a rigid structure.

Ethical Leadership Model:

Honesty and empathy are the core values of the ethical leadership model. Integrity and honesty form the foundation of this leadership model. A leader with an ethical leadership style always creates a working environment that has positive standards for an ethical working environment. Working under these leadership styles guarantees that you are working within the boundaries of the law. The leader with ethical leadership traits forms an inclusive, accountable, consistent, and healthier workplace culture. An ethical leader is always careful, conscientious, and meticulous. Despite its advantages, many experts still do not prefer this leadership model because its implementation is costly, needs ample support, requires consistency and clarity.

Laissez-faire Leadership Model:

In the laissez-faire model of leadership, the leader’s role is minimized and workers or group members are given the authority of decision making. This characteristic of the laissez-faire leadership model itself becomes its disadvantage because when workers are given the full authority to make a decision there will be less productivity. In the laissez-faire model, workers have to solve their b problems on their own which can cause conflict. The researchers and experts suggest using this model of leadership in selective situations only.

Bureaucratic Leadership Model:

In the bureaucratic leadership model, there is a chain of commands, and there is an entire line of authority for making and approving the decisions. There are proper rules and regulations to follow. The main focus of the bureaucratic leader is on the development of the organization and the achievement of organizational goals. This leadership is preferred by experts because it identifies the roles and responsibilities of everyone including leaders and there is no business. But it lacks efficiency because you have to follow rules and go through the long procedures for everything. There is a lack of creativity and free-thinking. The chain of command makes it difficult to bring change and break the status quo.

Democratic Leadership Model:

Democratic Leadership Model is so far the most adaptive and favorable leadership style. It focuses on involving the workers in decision-making. It is preferred by researchers and experts because it is applicable in all kinds of businesses. It is very useful in problem-solving and encourages a creative environment and connectivity between workers. The experts who are against this leadership style argue that it is time-consuming, and leaders are unable to give quick responses.

Autocratic Leadership Model:

The autocratic leadership model is also known as a one-man show. The decision-making and other powers are within one person. It makes decision-making fast, saves time and cost, improves communication and productivity, and is best for handling crises. Besides its advantages, this leadership style is not mostly preferred because all the credit goes to one person and lacks a sense of professional ownership.
